What to Do Before a Maths Lesson
Arriving cold means spending the first ten minutes catching up. A little preparation changes what you get out of the lesson.
In short
Find out what the topic is
Even the name is enough to make the lesson feel familiar rather than new.
Look at the last lesson’s notes
Most maths lessons build straight on the one before.
Check the skill underneath it
Fractions before ratio, negatives before algebra. If the earlier skill is shaky, say so early.
Have your equipment out
Ruler, pencil, calculator, protractor. Borrowing one costs ten minutes.
Bring one question to ask
Turning up with a question changes how you listen.
