Eight Ways to Make Maths Stick
Practice only works if it changes something. These eight are the changes worth making.
In short
Try before you check
Your brain learns from the attempt.
Practise little and often
Small sessions add up.
Mix things up
Practise different topics together to help you know which method to use and when.
Say how you did it
If you can explain it simply, you probably understand it.
Keep your mistakes
Find out what went wrong and try a similar question again.
Use an example when you are stuck
Study the method, then close it and have a go yourself.
Learn the maths language
Maths words tell you exactly what the question is asking.
Go back to go forward
If something is not clicking, find the earlier skill it builds on. Fix that first, then come back.
