Measure a distance in kilometres and metres
Definition
Measurement is how we describe size using units: length in centimetres and metres, mass in grams and kilograms, capacity in millilitres and litres.
Why Do I Have to Learn This?
Measuring lets us describe length, weight and capacity exactly. Cooking, building and science all depend on the right units.
Key Rules:
- 1. Choose the right unit for what you are measuring.
- 2. Line the zero of the ruler up with the start of the object.
- 3. 1 m = 100 cm, 1 kg = 1000 g, 1 litre = 1000 ml.
Remember:
- •Convert to the same unit before comparing or calculating.
- •Estimate first, then measure to check.
- •Write the unit with every answer.
